Description:
Tucked away in the Northwest corner of Romania is a region almost untouched by time or modern industry. Oxen and horses pull plows, and the day's meals are gathered from the garden. Maramures, with its remote forests, lakes, and villages, is a region of unspoiled natural beauty.

"Unspoiled" – a reference to both the land and the people – will be a collection of intimate portraits of local families, photographed against the backdrop of their surroundings. I will bring the readers into the villages, gardens, and homes of these fascinating people, capturing their way of life.

I am an accomplished photographer seeking an investor to sponsor this photographic journey through Maramures this August. This is a five week trip that I expect to yield material for at least two books, and possibly three.

In addition to "Unspoiled", I will also conduct a model search, photographing portfolios of 25 young women seeking modeling careers. These portfolios will be marketed as a photo book entitled “25 Girls”, and commissions may be generated from modeling contracts.

I am seeking $75,000 for this project, and propose that the sponsor share in all revenues. I expect to at least double the investment by splitting all payments equally with the investor until the investor receives $150,000. After that, the investor will continue to participate in the revenues for five full years, receiving 15% of all additional revenues.

Revenues will come from book royalties, art gallery expositions, on-line sales of prints, and modeling commissions. Meeting the financial objective (doubling the investment) would require the sale of approximately 100,000 books with a retail price of $30 each. Art gallery expositions also have strong revenue potential.

I have been a passionate photographer for 20 years, with several years of professional experience. I worked as a newspaper photographer in Romania for two years, covering breaking news, human interest, and sports for a large daily paper in Bucharest. My feature article/photo essay about Romania's junior gymnastics training academy was published in "International Gymnast" in March 1993. I have also worked as a photographer for the Burlington Free Press in Vermont (staff photographer) and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (freelancer). I have two years experience as a professional family portrait photographer. I have traveled extensively in Romania and speak the language fluently.

This project has excellent potential for both artistic achievement and commercial success, and I hope consider participating. Thank you.
