Description:
SkoolBoy was created for college students who were fed up of selling their textbooks/books back to their school bookstore and getting only half back of the original purchase price or getting very little back at all. The site allows students to sell their textbooks and other stuff to a wider audience for free. SkoolBoy is a true college environment that allows the sale of books and other stuff that college students might want to sell around the dorm such as their ipod, cell phones, tickets to campus concerts, and other things. Users are able to customize their accounts by updating user profile and adding pictures of themselves or avatars as representations. Also, users can suggest categories on the site that could be added later if the category is ideal for the site. Videos can be added to Auctions so students or other users can advertise their product or create an interesting video about the item they are selling. Users can create free storefronts on the site and list up to 10 items. The site provides RSS feeds of auctions that keep students updated about recently listed items, auctions ending soon, and popular auctions. The site is geared toward the user and is set up to evolve to the demands of the users.
The site came out of beta around March of 2008. We continue to collect members on a daily basis. Every month, we receive an average of 900 visitors on a budget of less than $200. We are hoping to use funding for advertising, website maintenance, and hiring of staff.
