Description:
I am a graduate student at Northwest Missouri State University. I will begin a research project this spring with the Massasauga Rattlesnake. The massasauga is a state endangered species and also a canadidate for becoming federally endangered due to habitat loss and human persecution. The need for research for this particular species is crucial if we are to save it.
I am conducting a relatively small spatial ecology study on private land to determine hibernation locations, home range data and seasonal range data with the help of radio telemetry and GIS (geographic information system). This information will be used in comparison to public land data that has been collected in the past to determine any differences is macro habitat selection. Much of the funding is coming from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service courtesy of Squaw Creek NWR but further funding is needed. Some medical supplies are needed, radio transmitters, trapping supplies, travel expenses and some odds and ends. Anything will help and will be very appreciated.
