Description:
The company you are about to review is presently developing a new class of anti-anxiety drug.
What makes this opportunity unique is that based on the history of the drug, we are confident that we will be successful through human trials. It has few of the side effects compared to the anti-depressant drugs now commonly prescribed for anxiety e.g., Prozac and other serotonin re-uptake inhibitors. Significantly, current FDA findings revealed that results obtained with this class of drugs are not much better than taking a sugar pill. Our drug is a glutamate blocker, which works through an alternative mechanism of action.
Our biggest challenge has been that when a patient used our drug it would last less than two hours. However, because of recent breakthroughs we will be able to increase its stability to last an entire day.
The initial application will be for the treatment of anxiety in the behavioral disorder known as Fragile X. Fragile X is a well-defined genetic defect and a model for Autism. With the company’s experienced physician advisors and access to clinics, the human studies on these patients can be completed rapidly. Following its use for Fragile X, the drug will likely be adopted for the management of anxiety in Autism. Autism in the US affects greater than 1.2 million individuals, and that number is growing.
We estimate the market size for our product to be $1 Billion.
As a secondary benefit, we have found that this drug will be attractive to the veterinary medicine market as well. We estimate the market for our product in the animal industry is $300 Million.
More than 10 million dogs in the US demonstrate symptoms of “Canine Separation Anxiety”. This inappropriate behavior occurs when an owner leaves the house, and the pet resorts to behaviors such as destructive chewing, extensive barking, vomiting, shaking, urination and defecation. Contrary to the belief that these are “bad dogs”, veterinarians agree that these animals are suffering human-like, anxiety related breakdowns. There are more than 100 million owned cats in the US, with a percentage expressing similar symptoms.
The need for drugs to treat anxiety in the “companion animal market” is a considerable opportunity and this company’s product may provide a solution. Currently, the most popular drug available in this market is Prozac for dogs, the anti-depressant with, as in humans, many adverse side effects.
This company is looking for a raise of $6 Million, which will get the drug through human trials. Our alternative strategy is obtaining a $500,000 bridge note, followed by a reverse merger into a publicly traded shell or a raise of $5.5 Million through a PIPE offering or private placement. The company is open to other funding options.
