The House of Congress is a fine dining lounge with a total seating capacity of 121 located in Old Town, which is one of San Diego's premier tourist attractions, providing us an abundance of guests, including vacationers, local residents and workers. The primary cuisine served in the area is Mexican. Old Town offers a handful of other cuisines, limited to Cajun, Italian, and Sushi. Due to these limited options, locals and tourists are in need of a new eatery which offers a wide variety of flavors and culinary influences. From detailed marketing analysis, we built a concept that centers around the consumers and their ‘want’. The House of Congress will focus on unique cuisine not available in Old Town, minimizing our competition.
The United States of America is truly the melting pot of the world. Today’s America is full of unique individuals with different customs and traditions and it is important to us that we honor the essence of America. The House of Congress will focus on Global American cuisine combining the presence of all cultures. Global American cuisine is the harmonious result of global ingredients infused into traditional American comfort food. Our desire is to share our love for the blissful unity of food, drink, and environment. The menu appeals to all those who enjoy the ambiance of Old Town but desire culinary variety. Our plates are presented in smaller portions accompanied with smaller prices, specifically designed for tasting and sharing, allowing guests to explore their palate through their personal combination of food, beer and/or wine.
The restaurant site is a single standing home built in 1919 that has since been converted into numerous facilities including office space and restaurants. Working with the property owners, we have begun a complete remodel due to its deteriorating condition. The interior has been removed and replaced with ADA compliant seating, restrooms and bar area, a new roof has been installed and two new patio seating areas have been created complete with natural gas fire pits and stationary heaters. Construction to date is fully compliant with all federal, state and city codes; however the project is currently 60% complete.
Naturally, our financial success is important to us. We believe this will be achieved by offering high-quality service, and food that entices the desires of our guests. We have created financial projections based on our experience and knowledge of the area. The total capital requirement to launch The House of Congress is $450,000, of which $350,000 is allocated to startup capital, and $100,000 as business operations cash reserve.
We need to secure additional financing to complete the remaining interior construction, purchase of furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E) and provide reserve funds necessary for initial operations. We have invested $150,000 in personal capital to date and are seeking to secure and additional $300,000 for the completion of this project.
