Description:
Seeking funds for a documentary on the true story of Frank Capri’s battle to become a Conscientious Objector to the Vietnam War.
In the process of battling the draft, the war, and the disapproval of his family and friends, Frank started a national movement against the Vietnam War. Sheltered by a wealthy family, politics was the last thing Frank had on his mind. But civil rights, the draft, and the war politicized him. Risking several years in prison, Frank applied as a ÇO in 1968. Twice his Virginia draft board turned him down and a two and a half year prison term seemed inevitable. The CO process took its toll on Frank as well as on his family and friends. His parents were treated like outcasts; his girlfriend was on the verge of a nervous breakdown; and all nine of Frank’s draft attorneys were exasperated because Frank would not be “practical” and get out of the draft with a fake deferment. While appealing his CO case, Frank formed a peace group in San Diego he called Non-Violent Action. The group’s nonviolent campaigns were covered by Time and Newsweek as well as by CBS and ABC Television on the evening national news. In order to win his CO case, Frank had one final appeal left – a plea to the Virginia State Director of Selective Service. Miraculously, the State Director overturned the draft board’s two previous rejections and ruled in Frank’s favor, granting him status as a Conscientious Objector.
Not long ago Frank had a reunion on film with the dedicated draft attorney who won Frank’s CO case. This is the true story of a patriotic Conscientious Objector who went to war with war.
Further fundraising for the project will help pay for historical stock footage, the use of ‘60s music, attorney fees, editing, and other production expenses. We are ready to accept donations from those who want to help support this important film. If you are not in a position to give money, perhaps you could direct us to a source for funds.
Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks!
