Description:
I am seeking a funding source to enable the completion of the writing and publishing of a book titled Fundamentals of Patent Administration. A publishing company has offered to fund this project but only if they could have all rights to this publication and any future editions. This type of legal instruction book is ripe for yearly updates and editions. The proposal was declined because this is the culmination of 30 years of experience which should not be ‘sold’ for a first edition only.
The patent community is one where most law firms, major corporations, universities and research institutions’ skilled experienced administrative staff are increasingly in shorter supply. With this backdrop, the book that bridges the gap between principals in the patent field (e.g. patent attorneys, research program directors, and corporate counsel) and their administrative staff (e.g. patent paralegals and secretaries) will be a highly valuable business asset. Additionally, international yearly updates will be as highly demanded as the first edition.
Funding to enable advertising and distribution during the completion of the formatting and printing of a first edition has been estimated to approximate $11,000.00. These expenses would totally complete the first printing of the project. The firms that have received information about the project have been placing requests for the first printing. The first printing would be estimated at $100.00 per book. There has been no price or yearly estimates established for the updates. However, it has been determined through request and marketability research that yearly updates would gross vastly more than the first editions. Pricing has the ability to increase yearly due to the market demand.
